PROMPTED – Learning Yourself: Post 26

Posted November 26, 2025 by berrywinters_zfqs1i in Prompted / 0 Comments

These are prompts from some other place besides a book that ask to examine certain aspects of yourself. I will not have created these prompts myself, so I want to pay respect that they came from somewhere.

This months’ prompts are going to be coming from this substack that I recently started following:

How do you measure growth without comparing yourself to others?

This prompt includes such an important part of measuring growth, which is not comparing yourself to others. I measure growth by understanding where I was before and where I am now. Do I see a change? Do I see that I am learning? if so that is growth. I have often told people that I have worked with as a social worker that growth does not have to be a huge monumental change, it is measured in the one steps or the .5% changes we make. Growth is anything we do to be better than we were the previous day. I look to see if I am still developing as a human being and that allows me to see if I am growing or not. Growth requires a desire to make something different. I measure how much is different and then I look at my own life and so wow that is not the same as a year ago. Life is a journey and growth has to be measured by understanding where you were without living in it and seeing where you are in this exact moment. I measure my peace and if I am happy. Right now I would argue I am not in these two states, but I see myself working towards changes in that department. This shows me that I am growing because I used to sit in the unhappiness and felt like it was a requirement of being alive. I do not do that to myself as much now. I say I am unhappy, but then I say what needs to change and work on it. It may take awhile because honestly growth does that, it takes time. I am working on a lot of changes right now, including medical changes. I am learning growth is important and a necessary part of our existence as human beings. I am not sure that I truly understood that until this recent hospital visit. I recognize now that growth needs to happen and that sometimes growth is painful, but also provides happiness and peace once completed.
